Didn’t Have a Plan—Found Something Better
“I graduated high school… I didn’t know what I wanted to do.”
Casey didn’t have some big career plan mapped out. So after graduating high school, he was trying to figure out what he wanted to do next. That’s when his uncle, who worked at the foundry, suggested he come in to check it out.
He liked what he saw enough to give it a shot. Starting as a general helper, he wasn’t sold at first. But instead of writing it off completely, he tried a different role, and that’s when things changed.
Found His Fit in the Melting and Pouring
“I love melting… it’s always something new… a different part, different aluminum, different [challenges].”
As a melter, Casey dives in at the very start of the process. He’s responsible for melting the aluminum, testing it with a spectrometer, adjusting different elements of the material as needed, and making sure everything is right before pouring the molten metal into whatever molds they have to fill that day. It’s technical, hands-on, and vital to everything that comes after that.
One of the things Casey likes most about the job is that it never gets repetitive or boring. Being a custom job shop, he’s only ever making a dozen or at most a hundred of any given part, not thousands, which keeps things interesting.
Even when he finds a good rhythm, something will change. Because every part behaves differently. Every material has its own quirks. Every tool and piece of equipment needs monitoring, maintenance, and repairs. Casey is constantly adapting, troubleshooting, and figuring things out in real time.
“Sometimes I still don’t know what I’m doing… I’m learning new stuff every day.” That’s just part of the job, and for him, it’s the best part.
The Impact Goes Beyond What You’d Expect
“I didn't realize how vast aluminum was, and that's really cool.”
Before this, Casey didn’t really understand what metalcasting was. He knew about basic things like engine blocks and rims, but not the complexity, variety, or extent of what gets made in foundries.
Like a lot of people, he had assumptions about what this kind of work would be like. Turns out, he was wrong.
A Career You Can Count On Long Term
“I think I could have a long career… and not worry about if I’ll have a job the next day.”
Beyond the work itself, what stands out is the stability. The company is constantly improving. Investing in better equipment, better safety standards, better working conditions. “[Eck is] always putting effort in.”
It’s not the dark, outdated environment people picture. It’s evolving and growing fast, and that makes it a place where you can actually build a future.
